I Love IRC.  For those of you who don’t know what that stands for or is… It is the pure embodiment of all that is internet communication.  It’s the mother of all chat protocol and is the first and oldest means of instantly sharing information with other groups of live people.  Yes, it’s a chat room in essence, and with so many other forms of communication you might be wondering “Why add one more?”.

My answer to this goes in a lot of directions.  It could be used for sourcing since there is a large amount of untapped people’s here who still use this outdated service for the sharing of free information.  It could be just that I have a personal infatuation with it.  Or… well that’s about it, it’s fun, it’s ALWAYS live, and it’s ALWAYS available.

How do I connect to such a thing?  Where is such a thing located?  In short, you can either download a client such as mIRC and connect through there or there are plenty of web based Java enabled sites which will allow one to connect.

I’m always connected to IRC personally, on several different servers, so I thought I’d pop a squat in a sourcing channel and just see if anyone bothers to show up.  Here’s where to find me:

Server: irc.efnet.org
Channel: #sourcing

If you’re not into downloading the client and spending the time learning how to use/connect to IRC, please feel free to follow this link:

Connect to IRC

Once on this site:

1) Enter Nick Name
2) DONT ENTER REAL NAME
3) Select “Other” from channel drop down
4) Type #Sourcing   in the dialogue box
5) Click Connect

I’m there 24/7.  Though I may be switching servers soon to keep a bot running, but for now this is fine.

Cheers^^

Mike
